Abu is a journey to the center of a fragmented family while they grapple with religion, sexuality, colonialism and migration. Through a tapestry of narratives composed of family footage, observation and classic Bollywood films, gay-identifying Pakistani-Muslim filmmaker Arshad Khan takes viewers through the tense relationships between family and fate, conservatism and liberalism and modernity and familiarity.

A coalition of activists from the Thomas Merton Center and several different social and political advocacy groups in town are meeting in Oakland on August 25, at 10:30 a.m., for a rally in Schenley Plaza.

The organizers understand the U.S. is not technically “at war” with another country right now, a march such as ours is more necessary than ever. The US military budget now stands at $700 billion, which amounts to 54% of all discretionary spending. It is at its highest since 1945 in constant dollars, exceeding military spending during the Cold War and the Korean and Vietnam wars.

Educators and librarians are invited to our fall 2018 book discussion on October 19th. The book for discussion is An Unnecessary Woman by Rabih Alameddine. We will begin with a complementary dinner at 5 PM and the book discussion at 6 PM in the Greensburg Room of the Administration Building. Twenty free copies are available. Dr. Rachel Sternfeld, Assistant Professor of Political Science, Indiana University of Pennsylvania will lead the discussion.

Qatar Foundation sponsoring Free trip for K-12 Educators

Qatar Foundation is hosting a fully-funded trip to Qatar and Oman from Dec. 23-January 3. ! The application is due June 22, 2018 (or when they get a good cohort of teachers, whichever comes first.) They will take 15 teachers, who are full-time K-12 teachers, teach at a public or public charter school in the U.S., and can demonstrate that you will use what you learn in the classroom.

The public is invited to ICP's annual outreach event Humanity during the sacred month of Ramadan, when ICP invites it’s friends and neighbors of all faiths to celebrate and honor members of the Pittsburgh who embody the change we want to see through their compassion and inspirational vision benefiting our city of Pittsburgh. The program will begin at 7:00 PM with dinner to follow at 9:00 PM
